Plum September Candy Each
The September Candy lives up to its name. An early-season plum that arrives before most of the stone fruit range, it is sweet, tender, and with a brightness that signals summer is properly underway. Smaller than a late-season variety but no less rewarding, and a great sign that stone fruit season has arrived.
September Candy plums are at their best from late November through December when they are one of the first plum varieties of the Australian stone fruit season.
Look for plums with deeply coloured skin that give slightly to gentle pressure. Leave firm ones on the bench for a day to finish ripening. Avoid anything very soft or damaged.
Eat them fresh as a snack, halve over yoghurt, bake whole into a crumble, or cook down with a little sugar into a jam or sauce for the freezer.
