Mandarin Imperfect Each
Imperfect mandarins are one of the best value buys in the citrus aisle. They might be a little uneven in size, carry a surface mark, or sit outside the grade, but peel one open and it is the same sweet, easy-eating mandarin you know. The difference is on the outside, not the inside.
Mandarins are at their best from April through August when Australian supply is at its peak and the flavour is at its sweetest. That is when imperfect mandarins represent the best value in the store.
Look for imperfect mandarins that feel heavy for their size with firm skin. A heavy mandarin has more juice. Avoid any that feel very light or have dried out.
Eat them fresh as a snack, pack into a lunchbox, segment over a salad, or squeeze into a dressing. Great mandarins at a better price.
